The Collingwood Dragon Boat and Canoe Club's Performance Paddling Program is for children between the ages of 10 and 17 years with previous paddling experience (including through the club's Paddle Camp program). This program is for youth that have paddled in the past and are interested in improving their paddling skills and/or racing. There is both on water and dry land training involved. Disciplines involved are kayak, canoe, stand up paddle boards, outriggers and war canoe. Coaching is provided by NCCP qualified coaches. Appropriate clothing and drinking water required.
The focus of the Performance Program is to teach the fundamentals of sprint paddling with a focus on fun, water safety and participation.
All sessions will be at the Watts Boathouse, the Club's historic boathouse on Heritage Drive in Collingwood's scenic harbour. The Performance Paddling Program is designed by National Coaching Certification Program-certified coaches and each session will be supervised by qualified coaches and experienced paddlers.
There will be an opportunity for participation in out-of-town regattas.
All equipment will be provided by the Club, although we recommend each paddler bring their own properly fitted and approved personal flotation device (PFD) equipped with a whistle).
